Despite the falling costs of CD manufacture and the arrival of affordable DVD replication, Vinyl manufacture continues to survive and is actually on the increase with most vinyl pressing plants working at or near capacity.
Vinyl pressing has increased greatly in recent years with the 7" single making a major return frequently used as a solid alternative to digital downloads. The collectable nature of a seven inch vinyl pressing is the perfect foil to the disposable nature of the MP3 single.
Whilst the seven inch forty-five has enjoyed a recent resurgence the twelve inch vinyl pressing continues to be the mainstay of the successful club track across all dance genres. Meanwhile as with the seven inch single many labels see vinyl manufacture as an integral part of marketing a prestige album release.
Key Production's recent vinyl manufacture for SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection (see Case Studie below) including distinctive special packaging demonstrates how vinyl pressing can exist in the digital age.

SEGA
This international games company wanted to produce a vinyl record containing music from the sega maga drive games for its worldwide territories to use for promotional purposes.
We managed to create the correct mix of vinyl granuals to match the company's colour and press the vinyl in a bespoke blue. The sleeve was enhanced by embossing the title and providing a spot varnish finish. To make this a collectors item, the sleeves were sequentially numbered before being shipped to numerous destinations across the world.
